The Basilica described by Vitruvius in his 'De Architectura' has emerged from the excavations in Piazza Andrea Costa in Fano: the only building definitively attributed to the Roman architect. The official announcement came during a press conference at the Montanari Media Library, attended by the President of the Marche Region, Francesco Acquaroli ; the Mayor of Fano, Luca Serfilippi ; the Superintendent, Andrea Pessina ; and the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli , who attended via live link. During the excavations related to the redevelopment of Piazza Andrea Costa, the Roman basilica described by Vitruvius was identified with certainty, with a rectangular plan and perimeter colonnade: eight columns on the long sides and four on the short sides.  Final confirmation came with a final survey, which uncovered the fifth corner column, confirming the building's position and orientation between the two squares.  When you flip a massive object like a trampoline, you have to consider that the amount of motion (\(\vec{p}=m\vec{v}\)) depends not only on the speed, but also on the direction. If the movement is not controlled correctly during rotation: Vector Reversal: At the tipping point, the direction of the velocity vector changes abruptly. Link video:

IBM computer plays "Jingle Bells" (1965)

In December 1965, an IBM computer enchanted an audience at Arlington State College in Texas by playing "Jingle Bells." This charming event highlighted the IBM 1620, a scientific minicomputer that made significant waves in the computing world. Introduced in 1959 and produced until 1970, the IBM 1620 is remembered not just for its technological innovations but also for its accessibility to students and researchers. The Journey of the IBM 1620 The IBM 1620 was officially announced on October 21, 1959 . Marketed as an inexpensive scientific computer , it quickly gained popularity in educational institutions. With approximately two thousand machines produced, the IBM 1620's production spanned over a decade before it was retired on **November 19, 1970**. One notable aspect of the 1620 was its architecture. It utilized a **variable-word-length decimal system** rather than the more common fixed-word-length binary system. This design choice made it an *attractive option for begin...

'Blood rain' flows down Iranian mountain - video

The Stunning Transformation of Hormuz: A Crimson Coastal Marvel A breathtaking natural phenomenon has made the Iranian island of Hormuz a topic of global discussion. In December 2025, its shores were transformed into a surreal blood-red landscape, capturing the fascination of tourists, scientists, and nature enthusiasts alike. This extraordinary event, triggered by heavy rainfall, turned Hormuz 's beaches and shallow waters a striking crimson hue, generating amazement, curiosity, and even concern online.  The Science Behind the Spectacle The scientific explanation for this spectacular phenomenon lies in the island's unique geology. Hormuz is characterized by a rich presence of iron oxide, particularly hematite, a mineral known for imparting a deep reddish hue to the soil and rocks. When rainwater seeps through the island's iron-rich soil, it dissolves and carries iron oxide particles toward the coast. This process enhances the reddish color of the sand and water, particular...

A mountain was split in China to build one of the world's tallest bridges

In the remote mountains of China's Guizhou province, an engineering feat is taking shape that is destined to enter history: the Huajiang Canyon Bridge . Once completed, this suspended bridge will be the tallest in the world, spanning the canyon at an impressive height of 625 meters above the ground. To give an idea of its magnitude, the Eiffel Tower could pass underneath without touching it. An Ambitious Project The Huajiang Canyon Bridge is an integral part of the Liuzhi–Anlong Expressway , a new 152-kilometer roadway designed to connect this mountainous region to China's high-speed road and rail network. This project will not only improve accessibility to the area but also represents a significant step toward the economic and social development of the province. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China shared a video of the project on social media, accompanied by the caption: "For the people and development, no mountain is too high....
